POSITION: Director of Sales REPORTS TO: VP of Sales Position Summary Manage all aspects of local sales to meet or exceed company goals for a Market's sales and profitability. Build and develop local sales organization. Plan and direct the implementation of sales strategies and tactics aimed at sustained sales and margin growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years in sales or sales management, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Advanced knowledge of retail grocery required.
  • Customer experience with Target, Aldi or Co Man.
  • Proven ability to manage top retail accounts and drive category growth.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and tactical skills.
  • Demonstrated success in a matrixed environment and leading remote teams across multiple locations.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation ability.
  • High energy, creativity, and team motivation capability.
  • Must be independently mobile and able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Must be able to use a computer and keyboard.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and drive the defined sales team to achieve above average sustainable profitable growth and protect existing business by effectively leveraging our Core Competencies.
  • Develop long-term sales strategies to improve market penetration and ensure future growth identifying and prioritizing growing Markets/Brands/Customers and Categories. Plan and decide on the optimal resource allocation in line with the Business Unit’s strategies.
  • Build, develop and support a team that will enable the organization to achieve the divisional targets, and have the skills, behaviors and competencies that benefits a high performing and successful sales force.
  • Act as the key role model to the sales team, displaying a high degree of energy and entrepreneurial drive across a range of subjects and disciplines (including but not limited to: Negotiation, Planning and Project Management, Finance (Pricing, Margins, Trading Terms, and Value Chain Understanding, etc.), Supply Chain, Forecasting, Marketing and Brand understanding, Applications and Technical understanding).
  • Define and promote a vision and mission for the sales force, giving purpose, a shared sense of direction and cohesion to the sales team.
  • Develop a winning sales strategy based on company business plans and objectives.
  • Plan and decide on the optimal resource allocation in line with the strategy.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Identify causes of success and failure in processes, projects, plans and their implementation to build on strengths and to reduce weaknesses.
  • Deliver the sales and gross profit budgets.
  • Establish close and effective relationships with our Major and Target Customers’ top management.
  • Constantly review the existing sales territories, including new customer opportunities and develop, update the sales force allocation.
  • Develop, in cooperation with the Sr. VP of Sales long term customer development plans for key customers to become a strategic partner and to ensure achievement of the budget.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process ensuring all information is captured and agreed.
  • Assess and evaluate information to identify and forecast market trends, issues and developments that might affect the business and the organization with the Manager’s area of responsibility.
  • Identify, install, maintain, and update methods and systems to record, store and retrieve information.
  • Advise and inform on customer activities, customer brands, market trends and competitor’s activities to aid strategic planning.
  • Have direct account management responsibility for selected accounts.
  • Promote a shared vision and mission to give purpose to the sales team as well as building a strong and cohesive team.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
