SUMMARY: Serves as lead sales associate for a department(s). Uses expert knowledge of department merchandise to enhance shopping experience. Promotes prompt, courteous and friendly customer service. May supervise other employees. Requirements

  • Requires attention to detail, concentration and alertness.
  • Mathematical skills to calculate yardage, square footage, fractions, percentages, pricing, discounts, taxes, returns, charges, making change, taking inventory, ordering, verification of quantities, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure, demonstrate effective decision-making, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Organizes work to complete assignments, maintains accuracy, pays attention to detail, and demonstrate customer service standards.
  • Occasional push, pull, and/or lift up to 60 lbs. of materials, including lifting and maneuvering up to 100lbs. of merchandise using a hand truck.
  • Ability to stand for durations up to 8 hours at a time.
  • Frequent reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and squeezing.
  • Manual dexterity to operate cash register, computer, calculator and misc. hand tools.
  • Ability to be certified to operate a forklift as assigned.
  • Minimum 2 years customer service, retail, cash handling experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of at least one specific department’s product assortment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, management, customers and vendors using both verbal and written skills. Able to understand and follow instructions to complete assignments.
  • General knowledge of computer and computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Helps ensure sales goals are obtained by welcoming customers and ensuring they have what they are looking for, while promoting better alternatives (up selling), sale items, and other relevant products to assist them with their projects.
  • Uses expert knowledge of a department’s product assortment to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Greets every customer within 10 feet, in a timely, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Uses the magic question to inquire about customer’s needs.
  • Determines customers’ needs and offers an appropriate service, product and/or suggestion. Personally accompany customer to the merchandise location.
  • Cultivates customers’ good will and encourages repeat business through suggestive selling. Handles customer special orders for non-stock items and rain checks.
  • Continually educates themselves about products and retains specific knowledge about current advertised items
  • Unloads freight container. Accurately receives, checks in, prices merchandise. Notates overages, shortages, damages, backorders, etc.
  • Assists in setting up and breaking down of regular, seasonal and/or promotional events as assigned.
  • Accurately handles the pre/post sale preparation and completes follow-up reports.
  • Accurately prices and displays (i.e. bins, shelves, displays, etc.) merchandise.
  • Performs weekly physical counts as assigned to maintain inventory levels. (i.e. zero counts, negative on-hand, etc.)
  • Assists in store recovery (i.e. straightening, fronting, dusting, and merchandise of product) according to proper schematics and established plan-o-grams.
  • Properly uses and secures two-way radios and head-sets as assigned.
  • Alert to security, safety and/or shoplifting issues and reports any incidents and/or concerns immediately to management.

  • Retrieves shopping carts and/or baskets and returns them to their assigned areas
  • Able to report to work as scheduled. Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance. Attends and participates in training sessions and monthly store meetings as required.
  • Work in a safe manner to protect yourself, your co-workers and others who may be affected by your actions.
  • Work together on exercising prevention methods to minimize injury or loss. Suggest solutions to mitigate hazards.
  • May supervise sales associates, hold store keys as necessary
  • Helps train new sales associates as requested.
  • Assists store management in the annual preparation and taking of the store’s physical inventory.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties (i.e. up keeps a professional appearance of the office, store’s floors, fixtures, restrooms, employee lounge, etc.) Performs general maintenance of the store’s premises (i.e. store entrance, parking lot, receiving, etc.)
  • Performs all related duties of a Cashier.
  • Promptly and accurately performs any other related duties as assigned by store management.
