About The Position

As a Sales Assistant, you will service customers by assisting the 17 Account Executives in the Chicago area with vendor-managed inventory (VMI), supporting existing customers, and adding value to our custom packaging programs. In this role, you will spend most of your time traveling to customers with AEs as well as on your own and working closely with our Customer Support team to provide best-in-class customer service. The SA plays a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of the Chicago branch and Shorr as a whole. Based on the responsibilities of this position, we expect the SA to eventually move into an Account Executive (AE) role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year College or University; or a minimum of one year of experience in retail sales, customer service, or sales support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • An exceptional level of self-motivation, competitiveness, organization, and customer service
  • Strong business acumen and project management skills
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Ability to help position Shorr Packaging solutions as a strategic advantage to our customer's long-term needs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel)
  • Local travel up to 50%

Responsibilities

  • Service existing accounts by providing physical inventory counting/analysis by planning and organizing a daily work schedule to call on assigned accounts as directed by the primary AE
  • Create content for sales presentations as directed (i.e. Excel spreadsheets, Proposals, Business Reviews, etc.)
  • Manage the creation of sales proposals within the normal organizational channels.
  • Provides historical data by maintaining records on customer sales, product enhancements, etc. for use in business review creation
  • Engages with existing customers to identify potential new opportunities and communicates to the primary AE
  • Creates and manages an active project list
  • Communicates constantly with primary AE and Customer Support Representative (CSR) on any activities/developments within assigned accounts
  • While in an assigned account, meets with all key customer contacts with the intent being to continue to build account position and learn strategic information, such as competitive pressures, desired outcomes, business changes, etc.
  • Carbon copy primary AE and CSR on all communications regarding assigned accounts
  • Interacts with vendor reps as needed (To obtain samples, pricing, quotations, etc.)
  • Submit orders as directed by the primary AE
  • Recommends changes in products/services by evaluating results and competitive developments
  • Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to the primary AE
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; interacting with vendor reps; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Review the Daily Order Bookings report (primary AE) to find any potential mistakes and/or margin maximization opportunities
  • Enhances customer experience by maintaining a high level of energy, attitude, and appearance
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Other duties as requested
