The job of Assistant Principal is done for the purpose/s supporting the principal and assigned personnel; receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, district and state policies; maintaining safety of school environment; coordinating assigned school site activities; assisting students to modify inappropriate behavior and to develop successful interpersonal skills; and communicating information to staff, principal and the public. This position supports the primary function of instructional leadership with the school principal.

  • Facilitates communication among school personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Facilitates various meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, staff development, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating agendas and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students and/or parents for the purpose of assisting students in modifying inappropriate behavior, developing successful interpersonal skills and/or initiating disciplinary action.
  • Manages various school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned teachers and personnel, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district and site objectives are met, enforcing school, district and state policy and providing for safety and efficient school operations.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information on various topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback.
  • Represents school at various meetings (e.g. district, site, community, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or gathering information.
  • Supports Principal for the purpose of assisting with their job functions of maintaining overall school site operation.
  • Evaluates certified and classified personnel.
  • Manages academic assessment of learners and serves as testing coordinator.
  • Manages and is accountable for site’s instructional materials.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

  • Master’s Degree in job related area.
  • Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Must have leadership experience.
  • Principal Certificate
  • Fingerprint clearance card; criminal background investigation
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions: and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: plan and manage projects.
