What we’re looking for: Indorama Ventures- Intermediate Chemicals is currently looking for a dynamic individual to work as a Safety Technician located at our Lake Charles, Louisiana facility. The Safety Technician is primarily responsible for serving as the health, safety, and emergency response subject matter expert on shift. Support and provide guidance to site personnel and contractors to ensure tasks are performed safely.

Requirements

  • H.S. Education or Equivalent required.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated by three (3) or more years in a Health and Safety Technician role, having previous LNG, Petrochemical, or Oil and Gas manufacturing industry a plus.
  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge, experience, or education related to job site hazard recognition safety inspection/audits for permit to work, hazardous energy isolation, hot-work (metal welding-grinding-thermal cutting), confined space entry, elevated work/fall protection, housekeeping, and crane hoisting and rigging.
  • Experience in Health and Safety policies, procedures, and standards in Industrial operations
  • Eligible to work in the US, pass a drug test and background check with criminal history.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written formats.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree and/or certification in Health & Safety Sciences or related field preferred
  • Any of the following certifications (not required but a plus): OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CSP, CHST, LSP, OHST, ASP
  • Preferred CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Current EMT with 5+ years of experience Preferred
  • Industrial Fire Training Preferred
  • Incident Command System training and experience Preferred
  • Rescue Team Lead training and experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Make rounds to assess potential risks and identify/mitigate safety hazards.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance to established procedures and processes.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair safety, medical, emergency response, and atmospheric testing equipment.
  • Serve as emergency responder, operate emergency equipment, and serve as member of incident command.
  • Conduct training/drills and review training content related to health, safety, and emergency response topics.
  • Participate in/lead safety meetings.
  • Prepare incident reports and conduct incident investigations.
  • Review and revise safety, health, and emergency response procedures.
  • Review workplace practices to identify safety hazards and implement appropriate safeguards to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct risk assessments, analyze potential hazards, and create safety plans.
  • Participate in meetings and support processes and work with site personnel to achieve site goals.
  • Support and implement corporate health and safety initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with developing and updating EHSQ-related program documents and policies.
  • Administers the site's behavioral-based safety program, including logging data into the BBS management system, trending data, and providing reports.
  • Serve as local system administrator for the incident management system.
  • Assist with the development of EHSQ reporting for the site location.
  • Oversee implementing and administering the Flame-Retardant Clothing, prescription eyewear, and boot voucher programs.
  • Assist in developing and distributing lessons learned and hazard alert documents.
  • Provide analysis and assessment of incident information.
  • Assist in compliance reviews, general risk assessments, and other safety assessments to support the Health and Safety management of the facility.
  • Possess the ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Perform facility audits, observations, surveys, and inspections to identify environmental, safety, and occupational hazards and weaknesses to promote effective practices and ensure compliance and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies, or process improvement.
  • Inform EHSQ leadership about the results of safety inspections, observations, and audits, as well as any observed deficiencies and means of mitigation.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, or events immediately to Shift Supervision and Health and Safety Manager
  • Participate in incident investigations to guide the identification of root causes and effective corrective actions.
  • Competency in training, facilitating, and presenting to multi-disciplinary groups.
