About The Position

Provide services that seek to create a safe and secure environment. Undertake activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations, both routine and emergent, that are within the scope of responsibility as they occur. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provide continuous professional and therapeutic presence in the unit. Monitor and visit clients in rooms to see if any issues have occurred or can be resolved. Conduct one on one therapeutic interaction with patients to deter escalations. Intervene appropriately when clients are exhibiting escalating behaviors. Take precautionary measures as necessary. Communicate any issues or concerns to Behavioral Health staff and management. 2. Ensure client, visitor, and staff safety. Document activities and services in a complete accurate and timely manner according to regulations. Report any unsafe working conditions. Ask for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved. Maintain a safe working environment and practices safe working habits. 3. Adhere to all safety, infection control, and employee health policies and procedures. Attend required safety programs. Appropriately and consistently use the personal protective equipment required of the job. Know and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster, and other emergency situations. Actively participate in regularly scheduled drills (Code Red, Green, etc.) and regulatory safety standards. Complete and appropriately route incident reports in a timely manner. Use equipment safely and appropriately. Report and remove unsafe equipment/furniture. 4. Values and Leadership Competencies. Demonstrate a visible working style, acts in a manner that is consistent with and shows commitment to the Values.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Mandatory Reporter certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Non‑violent Crisis Intervention training.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of prior patient safety or security/criminal justice experience preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health preferred.
