About The Position

The Safety Specialist supports the Safety Manager and project teams in promoting and maintaining a safe working environment across Rifenburg Construction operations. This role is focused on field-level safety support, compliance tracking, and employee engagement, helping ensure company safety policies and OSHA requirements are consistently followed on active jobsites. The safety Specialist plays a key role in reinforcing Rifenburg’s safety culture through inspections, observations, training support, and documentation acting as a visible, approachable safety resource for field personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is required. College level classes or associate degree preferred.
  • Industry experience in Safety Management is required.
  • 2-4 years of construction safety experience, preferably within heavy civil or infrastructure environments.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • Practical knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policies
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Computer skills MS Excel and Word software programs.
  • Efficient verbal and written communication
  • Accurate data entry and accurate calculation of mathematical problems
  • Higher level, complex analysis and interpretation required for problem solving
  • Ability to work with teams and other divisions
  • Independent judgment required using existing guidelines to determine work methods within established policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of internet research
  • Ability to develop and cultivate long-term relationships with consultants

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular job‑site safety inspections and audits under the direction of the Safety Manager.
  • Assist with tracking and following up on corrective actions resulting from inspections, observations, or incidents.
  • Monitor and review toolbox talks, safety observations, and site inspection reports for accuracy and completion.
  • Support project teams with hazard identification, JHA reviews, and safe work planning.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of company safety policies, procedures, and manuals in compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with coordinating third-party safety consultant visits and ensuring follow-up actions are addressed.
  • Assist in identification and coordination of necessary company “Stand Downs”.
  • Participate in the coordination of the Annual Safety Meeting and employee training with Division Safety Officers.
  • Participates in industry safety events and associations.
  • Assist in job-site incident and near miss investigations, gathering documentation, identifying contributing factors, and participating in root cause analysis.
  • Support timely reporting of incidents to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Provide daily/weekly/monthly safety updates to the safety manager.
  • Participate in safety meetings, including weekly safety meetings and monthly safety committee meetings with division safety officers.
  • Assist with new hire safety orientation and onboarding activities as needed.
  • Support tracking and review of company safety data, including dash camera alerts, observations, and reports.
  • Maintain safety-related documentation and records in accordance with company requirements.
  • Act as a safety representative at project meetings when requested.
  • Promote open communication and positive working relationships with field staff to encourage safe behaviors and reporting.
