About The Position

Red Cedar Solutions is a New Jersey government-based contracting company that is looking to fill a Safety Specialist position at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The role involves providing occupational safety and fire protection support as part of the Joint Safety Health Institutional Facilities Team (JSHIFT) contract at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). This includes performing hazard recognition, evaluation, and control activities, as well as various inspections and reporting tasks.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years occupational safety & health related experience in an institutional and/or industrial environment.
  • Proficient in OSHA & NFPA standards and publications, risk management, and system safety techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractor’s representatives, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in an occupational safety & health or Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field of study is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational safety and fire protection support as part of the Joint Safety Health Institutional Facilities Team (JSHIFT) contract at the Johnson Space Center (JSC).
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and reporting.
  • Perform routine construction site inspections and reporting.
  • Review construction project, facility, and equipment designs.
  • Conduct mishap and close call investigations and provide support.
  • Develop and review facility and job hazard analyses.
  • Create Center safety and health communications and educational materials.
  • Audit contractor’s OSHA programs such as lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and fall protection.
  • Support both JSC and company’s Voluntary Protection Program (VVP) activities and initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
