About The Position

The Safety Specialist I/II, Sr. I/II position is responsible for ensuring safety and security protocols are followed at the facility. This includes issuing daily work permits for contractors, inspecting areas before issuing permits, and closing out permits after inspections. The role also involves being the Terminal Facility Security Officer (FSO), conducting Facility Security Assessments (FSA), developing and implementing Facility Security Plans (FSP), and ensuring regular security inspections and training for personnel. The specialist must be able to operate emergency response equipment, be a member of the Emergency Response Team, and conduct field inspections related to environmental, fire, and safety equipment. The position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various physical conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in EHS policies and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of fire hazards, confined space entry, and emergency response equipment.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Ability to complete training to become Facility Security Officer.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Ability to meet criteria for confined space rescue supervisor.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs/ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Previous Emergency Response Team Member experience.
  • Previous firefighting experience.
  • Experience as a permit writer.
  • Experience as a confined space rescue supervisor.
  • Experience in a security capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Issue daily work permits for contractors working on site.
  • Inspect all areas before issuing work permits for General, Hot Work, Confined Space, and Dike area entry.
  • Close out permits after inspecting areas for proper housekeeping.
  • Serve as the Terminal Facility Security Officer (FSO).
  • Conduct Facility Security Assessments (FSA) and ensure the development and implementation of a Facility Security Plan (FSP).
  • Conduct annual audits and update FSA and FSP as necessary.
  • Exercise the FSP as per regulations.
  • Conduct regular security inspections of the facility.
  • Ensure security awareness and training for facility personnel.
  • Record and report security incidents to management.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as required.
  • Coordinate security services in accordance with the approved FSP.
  • Operate, test, calibrate, and maintain security equipment.
  • Assist Vessel Security Officers in confirming identities of visitors.
  • Notify law enforcement and emergency responders of security incidents.
  • Implement the TWIC program.
  • Operate emergency response equipment and be a member of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Conduct field inspections of environmental, fire, and safety equipment.
  • Monitor work sites and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
