About The Position

The safety and security officer preserves the peace and good order within Rochester Regional Health facilities. Additionally, ensuring a safe environment for all that is on the property. Performs security patrols, answers security calls, conducts initial investigations, actively participates in visitor and patient safety initiatives, and responds to emergencies. Provides superior customer service by modeling Rochester Regional Values.

Requirements

  • Valid NYS Driver’s license
  • NYS Security Guard Act License
  • Current CPR certification - New or existing employee hired after 11/1/18 must obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Current (PMCS) Preventing Managing Crisis Situation Training - New hires and/or existing employee must retain certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of NIMS/ICS 100/700 (National Incident Management System) - New and/or existing employees hired after 11/1/2018 must complete within 6 months of hire.
  • Completion of NIMS/ICS 200/800 (National Incident Management System) - New and/or existing employees hired after 11/1/2018 must complete within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • AAS in Police Science, Criminal Justice or Military Preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work history in the following industries: security field, law enforcement, military, or healthcare preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform all the function of a Sr. Security Officer.
  • Acts in the capacity of the Supervisor in absence of a leader.
  • Assists the Supervisor with supervision of shift operations.
  • Interacts with local law enforcement when necessary.
  • Exercises good judgment and/or engages the appropriate resource when necessary.
  • Acts as ambassador for RRH policies and values.
  • Exhibits integrity in all forms of reporting activities, investigatory involvement, and personal interactions.
  • Advises shift supervisor on issues of employee performance daily, offering direct input in areas of progress, evaluation (quarterly/annually), and disciplinary matters.
  • Provides for the protection and safety of patients, visitors, employees and physical property at all times in a professional manner.
  • Assists the Supervisor with Hospital and departmental training, serving as a training officer for new members of the department.
  • Monitors psychiatric patients as directed by medical or psychiatric staff, to maintain the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
  • Responds to emergency situations and unsafe conditions, interceding on behalf of the Health System.
  • Ensures that all shift duties assigned are completed in a professional and timely manner.
  • Submits accurate and complete reports, documenting events, incidents, and situations encountered.
  • Recommends changes in shift procedure when appropriate.
  • Complies with and enforces all rules, regulations and instructions issued by the department and hospital.
  • Patrols the buildings and grounds to deter criminal activity.
  • Responds and investigates reports of any criminal or suspicious activity.
  • Insures proper documentation is completed with accurate follow up, and notifications made to the proper people.
  • Monitors the operational status of departmental equipment assigned to the shift, including the patrol vehicle and transport vans and Protrac barcode Scanners.
  • Performs all scheduling functions for the Department of Safety and Security.
