About The Position

The Safety Partner assists with the provision of a safe hospital environment conducive to individualized patient care for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm or other risk behaviors. This role enables patients to maintain or enhance function during their hospital stay.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Prior healthcare experience or enrollment in a health sciences program preferred.
• Completion of Sentara Safety Partner Training Course if no prior experience.
• Core competencies in communication, confidentiality, de-escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke, and suicide.

• Current enrollment in a health sciences program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining a safe hospital environment for patients at risk.
• Support individualized patient care.
• Monitor patients for risk behaviors such as suicide, falls, and self-harm.
• Implement de-escalation techniques and physical interventions as needed.
• Complete required training and competencies during orientation.
