About The Position

The Safety Officer role is for Safety Services within the Construction/Engineering sector. The company is a Service Provider that integrates Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Utilities, and Specialized Technical services across the Island and in the US. They cater to Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Manufacturing industry clients. The position involves developing, implementing, and enforcing site-specific safety plans, conducting regular safety inspections and audits, performing job hazard analyses, investigating incidents, providing safety training, monitoring PPE compliance, ensuring subcontractor adherence to safety requirements, maintaining safety records, collaborating with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with federal environmental regulations, and utilizing project management software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • At least five (5) years of exposure to construction safety in federally funded projects
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction certification is required
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish (verbal/written)
  • Experience in: Developing and implementing site-specific safety plans
  • Experience in: Conducting safety audits and inspections, and providing safety training
  • Experience in: Incident Investigations and Reporting
  • Experience in: Hazard identification and risk assessment

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific safety plans in compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Investigate and report all accidents, incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct safety training and toolbox talks for construction personnel on relevant safety topics.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Ensure that all subcontractors comply with project safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and documentation, including inspection reports, training records, and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and federal agency representatives to address safety-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal environmental regulations and permits, including hazardous materials handling.
  • Utilize project management software and databases to track safety performance, manage documentation, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Conduct pre-construction safety meetings with contractors to review safety requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure all safety documentation complies with applicable USACE or FEMA standards.
