About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) , southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation’s designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG). At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to bring a dedicated Safety Officer onto our team to provide essential and critical safety data and operational support to our leadership team at a major DoD Test Facility.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Safety Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience as a government safety representative. Two (2) years of experience in comprehensive safety and OSHA standards is equivalent to one year of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage a comprehensive Safety Program at a large-scale level.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office.
  • Availability to respond to “after hours” alarms or emergencies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours with little prior notice.
  • Capable of working in field conditions to perform inspections and investigations.
  • Highly developed analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; must be able to analyze high-risk conditions and develop ways to mitigate risk.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must have a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical, as well as periodic retests.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver’s Record, and a Criminal Background Investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement safety plans, ensuring daily adherence.
  • Continuously monitor working conditions and resolve any safety issues and provide recommendations for improving workplace safety.
  • Attend safety walks and inspections before and/or during each project.
  • Track and document accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future incidents.
  • Perform inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, safety observation reports and processes on a regular, constant basis and recommend corrections or additional precautions to ensure safety and compliance with established regulations.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials, including videos, guides, and posters and participate in the training of site personnel, educating employees on safety standards and safe machinery operation.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with key government and internal customers and serve as the safety liaison between management and external safety agencies.
  • Conduct periodic self-inspection and review of safety processes to ensure continued compliance and improve overall safety conditions.
  • Develop and enforce legally required standards for a safe environment to protect personnel, property, and information.
  • Investigate and report safety violations and adverse information reports to the appropriate agencies.
  • Investigate onsite accidents to identify possible causes.
  • Maintain documentation of safety procedures, accidents, and related events.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
