About The Position

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the security of personal, buildings, and equipment on campus by patrolling assigned areas, monitoring for unauthorized access, and providing assistance to visitors and staff. This role involves a variety of security-related tasks, including responding to emergencies, preparing reports, and serving as the Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to conduct security patrols without direct supervision.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain physical fitness for standing, walking, running, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Skill in performing building security and lock procedures.
• Knowledge of Clery Act requirements and public security codes.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to ensure security of personal, buildings, and equipment.
• Monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons and suspicious activities.
• Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty.
• Assist the public with lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information.
• Report irregularities such as security breaches and hazards.
• Contact emergency responders when necessary.
• Confront and detain violators until police arrive.
• Perform periodic checks of emergency call boxes and streetlights.
• Prepare routine, standardized reports.
• Control access to facilities and events.
• Serve as the Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
