About The Position

KOMAN Construction is currently seeking a dedicated and self-motivated professional to apply their skills and experience as a Construction Safety Officer to support the CBP Project in Del Rio, Texas. The incumbent must be able to pass the military background check to gain access to the base. All construction sites are generally prone to accidents and thus safety at the construction site cannot be compromised. The main responsibilities are supporting and providing direction to both Site employees and the Construction Manager on Safety matters, taking the lead to identify and correct if required, any hazard assessments or provide safety training if lacking, hosting safety meetings with subcontractors and vendors that are on our Construction Sites. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or higher, or commensurate experience, in a technical field will be given strong consideration
  • OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 501
  • Previous experience instructing teams on training materials
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook is required.
  • Proficiency with Software Systems: Dropbox, Procore, RS Means Etc.
  • Strong computer skills including scheduling software and Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, coordination of people and resources, project management, estimating, accounting, human resources, administration, bidding & marketing.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, highways and roads.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiations.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective business operations, leadership, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe working conditions for all workers, sub-trades and visitors on/around the site
  • Enforce all established safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Recommend disciplinary action when necessary to ensure compliance with the rules
  • Ensure that trade workers are oriented with the site and its safety regulations
  • Provide instructions to workers on safe work procedures (i.e. How to use personal protective equipment as appropriate, e.g. hard hats, vests, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety-toed boots or other items deemed necessary)
  • Provide educational training and seminars to all employees
  • Provide support and administrative assistance on safety-related compliance projects, safety oversight, Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
  • Enforcing and adherence to EM 385-1-1
  • Correct physical conditions, which are liable to cause or have caused accidents
  • Undertake the investigation of accidents, incidents or near misses to determine the underlying causes.
  • Complete the necessary forms to document these incidents immediately.
  • Conduct regular on-site hazard assessments.
  • Identify hazards and unsafe work practices and provide recommendations on how to eliminate these issues.
  • Work in cooperation with other project supervisory personnel to determine procedures for dealing with safety violations.
  • Provide weekly safety reports to the Safety Manager
  • Responsible for the daily administration of the Safety Program
  • Post all Safety bulletins, Safety posters and Safety rules and regulations
  • Ensure that pertinent safety inspections/reports are submitted as required and corrective action is taken.
  • Conduct in house safety training, review and implement safety manual.
