Safety Monitors/Security Guards are responsible for the overall security and well-being of the patients, staff, visitors, and physical facilities of Butler Hospital by insuring that the proper policies and procedures are followed in an orderly, efficient, and professional manner. Also, work in our Emergency Room/Patient Assessment Department. Responsible to perform scanning procedures on all non-staff entering the department. Will also assist Patient Assessment staff as needed. Standards Make routine rounds of smoke and/or fire and follows up and properly investigates any reports or questions thereof. Doors and windows secured as necessary Lights out where possible and lights on where necessary Equipment and facilities in proper condition Thermostats at proper settings In general All is Well Checks for signs of smoke and/or fire and follows up and properly investigates any reports or questions thereof. When applicable, initiates or follows through on the proper fire procedures as outlined in the Fire Safety Manual and sounds fire signal to alert appropriate Hospital personnel Reports any unusual conditions or situations to the proper levels or authorities by means of the Daily Shift Report the Incident Report, or when necessary directly by telephone. Assists clinical staff when requested, always accompanied by clinical staff member. Assists Hospital staff in general whenever necessary. Promotes cooperation between inside and outside security guards to insure proper traffic and parking controls. Stations self at Main entrance Lobby when not on rounds in order to be immediately accessible to the switchboard (inside security guards). Patrols in vehicles or parks by Duncan Lodge drive to watch main road and walk in gates, when not on rounds (outside security guards). Observes all relevant risk management and infection control policies and procedures and any applicable quality improvement activities. Attends orientation and ongoing in-service education as required. Demonstrates competence in day-to-day interactions with patients, family members or friends that may be present, either as patients or visitors, at Butler Hospital. Demonstrates ability to interact therapeutically and meet patients needs with respect to the following: Child- Respects the smaller size of the patient (i.e. bends or squats down, if necessary). Avoids hospital jargon (i.e. uses simple, concrete directions). Shows equal respect for the child. Adolescent- Provides privacy when interacting with a patient around sensitive issues (i.e. a particular belonging or special need of a patient). Awareness of confidentiality issues, including the patients family members/guardian. Show equal respect for the adolescent. Adult- Respects the patients need to be involved in the decision-making process. Offers choices when possible. Geriatric- Awareness of potential sensory deficits (i.e. speaks slowly and clearly, allows time for patient to respond). Shows respect by using patients full name (i.e. Mr., Mrs., Miss) Assist clinical staff when requested in all de-escalation efforts and team interventions. Reports any unusual conditions or situations to the proper levels or authorities by means of the Daily Shift Report, the Incident Report, or when necessary directly by telephone. Attends yearly De-escalation trainings and additional de-escalation trainings as scheduled. Observes all relevant risk management and infection control policies and procedures and any applicable quality improvement activities.
