About The Position

The AV Safety Data Analytics team is building the next generation of quantitative safety modeling capabilities for automated driving systems. We are seeking a Safety Modeling Engineer to lead development of driver behavior models that establish human performance benchmarks and support safety evaluation. In this role, you will integrate domain expertise to design and build statistical and machine learning models using large-scale real and simulated driving datasets to represent human driving behavior in safety-critical scenarios. You will define behavioral benchmarks, contribute to safety performance metrics, and integrate these models into evaluation pipelines used to support safety assessments and decision making across ADS programs. This role requires strong analytical skills, modeling intuition, and practical judgment. You will shape how human reference behavior is represented and used across automated driving safety programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Expertise in human performance and capabilities, perception, response and behaviors.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL and data visualization
  • Dev Ops and Infrastructure as Code: CI/CD, versioning, Docker & Kubernetes, GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Poetry, Terraform
  • Experience working with perception, planning and control output
  • Experience developing statistical or machine learning models using large datasets
  • Experience with behavioral modeling, human performance analysis, or simulation-based analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze cross-disciplinary problems and propose practical modeling solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical results to cross-functional stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field
  • Relevant publication
  • Experience with driver behavior modeling or human performance benchmarking
  • Experience with causal inference or counterfactual modeling techniques
  • Familiarity with simulation-based evaluation or scenario analysis
  • Experience working with cloud or distributed data platforms

Responsibilities

  • Develop driver behavior models representing human response in safety-critical scenarios
  • Build statistical and machine learning models using large-scale driving and simulation datasets
  • Analyze data to derive behavioral benchmarks and safety performance metrics
  • Build scalable modeling pipelines and data workflows
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate modeling results into safety evaluation methods
  • Contribute to safety assessments and safety case evidence
