About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs that ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors, and visitors on an active industrial maintenance site. This role partners closely with maintenance leadership to reduce risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and build a strong safety culture while supporting safe and efficient maintenance operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of safety experience in an industrial or maintenance-heavy environment
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards
  • Experience supporting maintenance activities in operating facilities
  • Ability to walk industrial sites, including climbing ladders and stairs
  • Exposure to industrial environments (noise, heat, chemicals, heavy equipment)
  • Occasional off-hours or weekend support during maintenance outages or critical work
  • Strong presence and credibility with maintenance teams
  • Practical, solution-oriented approach to safety
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and zero-harm mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Professional safety certification (CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent)
  • Experience managing multi-shift or 24/7 maintenance operations
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance planning processes
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Conduct routine safety audits, job safety analyses (JSAs), and hazard assessments for maintenance activities
  • Track, report, and analyze safety metrics, incidents, and near misses to identify trends and corrective actions
  • Lead incident, injury, and near‑miss investigations
  • Identify root causes and develop corrective and preventive action plans
  • Ensure timely and effective implementation of corrective actions
  • Design and deliver safety training for employees and contractors, including orientation and task-specific training
  • Train maintenance personnel on safe work practices, equipment safety, and hazard recognition
  • Maintain training records and ensure required certifications remain current
  • Oversee contractor safety programs and ensure compliance with site safety standards
  • Review and approve work permits (LOTO, hot work, confined space entry, energized work)
  • Conduct contractor safety meetings and site orientations
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans
  • Coordinate drills for fire, chemical release, medical emergencies, and other site-specific risks
  • Serve as on-site safety authority during emergency situations
