About The Position

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and qualified Safety Manager to lead and implement the Safety and Health Program on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction project. The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as USACE EM 385-1-1 standards. The ideal candidate will serve as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) and ensure daily safety oversight and documentation. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) in accordance with USACE EM 385-1-1. Implement and enforce the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs). Conduct daily site safety inspections and maintain the Daily Safety Report (DSR). Lead weekly Safety Toolbox Talks and pre-task planning meetings. Coordinate with USACE Quality Assurance Representatives and project staff to ensure safety compliance. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions. Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety standards and review their AHAs. Maintain all site safety documentation as required by USACE and OSHA. Provide safety training to employees, including new hire orientation and task-specific instruction. Participate in progress meetings and interface directly with the USACE on all safety matters.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience on similar size and scope projects.
  • 5 year (at minimum) of safety experience on USACE projects.
  • Must have completed the USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM-C) course (preferred or required, depending on project).
  • Must have completed the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training.
  • EM 385-1-1 training within the last 5 years (40-hour preferred).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification (current).
  • Strong working knowledge of EM 385-1-1, OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926/1910), and federal safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to enforce site safety policies.

Nice To Haves

  • CHST, CSP, or other safety certification(s).
  • Experience with RMS/QCS and other USACE-specific software tools.
  • Military construction (MILCON) or secure facility experience.
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors on a federal construction site.
