About The Position

The Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems business is a trusted provider of innovative naval gas and hybrid power systems, control technology and support solutions for the U.S. Navy and navies around the world. Job SummaryOur Danbury, CT facility is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead, implement, and continuously improve our site-wide safety programs. This role is critical to ensuring the highest standards of occupational health, operational safety, and regulatory compliance for our employees and facility. Our highest priority is making sure that all employees go home each day the same way they came in. The Safety Manager will serve as the principal authority on safety policy, risk management, and incident prevention, supporting mission readiness while protecting personnel, assets, and facilities. This is an onsite position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in safety management, preferably within defense, maritime, industrial, or high-risk operational environments
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, risk management frameworks, and safety management systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety programs in medium to large organizations (300+ employees preferred)
  • Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP, NEBOSH, or equivalent) is highly desirable
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured, security-conscious environment
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all aspects of site environmental, health and safety are managed in compliance with applicable laws and in conformance with the DRS EH&S Policy
  • Ensure that a proactive safety program is developed and implemented, complete with metrics
  • Interface with and manage relationships with all applicable government and regulatory agencies
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations; prepare reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions
  • Advise senior leadership on safety performance, risks, and mitigation strategies
  • Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, response planning, and drills
  • Monitor safety metrics, trends, and KPIs; drive continuous improvement initiatives
