About The Position

The Safety Manager supports efforts to provide a safe workplace for Company employees and subcontractors. They also help ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, as well as the safety rules and requirements of the Company’s clients. The Safety Manager mentors and supervises Safety Specialist I and II personnel in the department. This person should consistently demonstrate Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence, and Leadership.

  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and site logistics.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally

  • Ability to work around loud noises and heavy machinery
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • High school diploma
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in construction required
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a SUPR Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana)
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon
  • Must maintain an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that meets the Company’s eligibility

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and MUTCD preferred
  • OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 preferred
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician or Certified Safety Professional designation by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals

Responsibilities

  • Supervises at least one Safety Specialist I and/or Safety Specialist II
  • Manages an assigned corporate safety responsibility beyond the jobsite
  • Holds regular touchbases with assigned safety team members
  • Attends internal and external meetings
  • Performs regular jobsite safety audits and completes any necessary remediation within 48 hours of identifying a hazard
  • Manages owner/CM-specific paperwork onsite and ensures compliance with timely submission
  • Represents the Company in the event of an OSHA inspection
  • Attends Morning Huddles and provides constructive feedback, including incident follow-up for the project
  • Attends onsite safety meetings as required
  • Operates the Company Incident Line, as required
  • Performs all safety compliance-related training
  • Addresses safety hazards as they occur, working with onsite crews to implement necessary modifications for compliance and safe practices
  • Identifies respirator needs and ensures compliance with medical evaluations and annual fit testing
  • Identifies opportunities to collect industrial hygiene data and coordinates with third-party providers
  • Is familiar with and educates employees on the use of Company safety forms
  • Manages risk
  • Investigates equipment and auto accidents
  • Assists in the enrollment of subcontractors to appropriate wrap-up insurance administrators
  • Provides initial responder care for injured workers and subcontractors onsite
  • Maintains communication with injured workers and the company to support a safe return to work
  • Maintains adequate onsite supplies for field personnel
  • Collaborates with Field Leadership to support safety efforts and assist with onsite management as needed
  • Maintains all certifications required for jobsite approval as a site-safety professional
  • Assists with project-specific orientation as needed
  • Knows, enforces, and adheres to all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
