About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for leading all occupational health and safety (OH&S) programs, regulatory compliance activities, and safety culture initiatives across the site. This role advises senior leadership on worker safety risks, regulatory obligations, and corrective actions, while directly delivering safety training, incident investigations, and audit programs. The Safety Manager serves as the subject matter authority on life-safety requirements, emergency response, and EH&S governance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6–10 years of progressive EH&S experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or facilities-intensive environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 / 1926), EPA regulations, and applicable consensus standards (NFPA, ANSI).
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations, root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and corrective action programs.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training curricula and managing behavioral safety programs.
  • Able to read, write and speak in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification.
  • Experience managing ISO 45001 or equivalent OH&S management systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial hygiene monitoring, exposure assessment, and ergonomic program management.
  • Experience in process safety management (PSM) environments.
  • Proficiency in safety management information systems (SMIS) and incident tracking platforms.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership Oversight & Governance: Owns OH&S governance at the site level; advises senior leadership on worker safety risks, regulatory exposure, and compliance status.
  • Facilities Management: Verifies that facility conditions meet occupational safety requirements, including housekeeping, egress, equipment guarding, and hazard controls.
  • Maintenance & Reliability: Verifies that maintenance activities comply with safety requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work procedures.
  • Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S): Leads comprehensive safety programs, incident investigations, safety training delivery, and regulatory audit coordination.
  • Physical Security & Site Access: Ensures that physical security controls do not introduce occupational safety risks or compromise emergency egress and life-safety systems.
  • Contractor & Vendor Oversight: Qualifies contractors for safety compliance; enforces site safety requirements and monitors contractor safety performance throughout project execution.
  • Emergency Management & Business Continuity: Leads life-safety emergency response, drills, and medical coordination; ensures readiness for all credible emergency scenarios.
  • Capital Projects & Engineering Support: Reviews capital project designs for safety and regulatory compliance, providing written safety input at each design phase.
  • Compliance, Risk & Audit Management: Leads safety audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action programs; maintains comprehensive safety compliance documentation.
  • Training & Competency Management: Defines and delivers safety and regulatory training programs aligned with OSHA requirements, operational hazards, and organizational risk profile.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Manages safety program budgets including training resources, PPE, industrial hygiene monitoring, and compliance activities.
  • Performance Management & Continuous Improvement: Tracks and reports safety performance metrics (TRIR, DART, near-miss frequency); drives trend analysis and proactive improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership & People Management: Leads safety culture and accountability programs; develops safety competency across all site personnel through coaching, communication, and recognition.
