How your role fits into Boldt:The purpose of the Safety Manager II is to create, inspire, and maintain an “Extraordinary” safety culture. This position will lead, direct, facilitate, and support project safety initiatives for a project or multiple projects. The Safety Manager II will be responsible for ensuring the completion of safety audits and inspections as well as all required internal and external reporting obligations are met, including monthly reporting of site safety metrics. Through planning, leading, evaluating, and continuously improving the awareness and practice of safe construction methods, the manager will strive to create an environment encouraging a collaborative working spirit and an integrated culture.

  • Collaborate with site leadership to outline safety goals for the project. Coordinate with subcontractors to understand their safety requirements and embed into the company's plan as needed.
  • Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and collaboration with project and department leadership.
  • Participate in developing and conducting staff and craft safety orientation training programs that cover site specific and Boldt overall expectations and standards. Use complete sentences.
  • Participate in developing and conducting training to ensure appropriate inspection, maintenance, use of tools and specialty safety equipment.
  • Lead and assist in project pre-planning, including Safety Task Analysis (STA) and Job Hazards Assessment (JHA) prior to project mobilization. Use gender-neutral language.
  • Create and provide safety guides to ensure appropriate use of tools.
  • Conduct work area inspections and audits to ensure continued compliance.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are adhered to at assigned project(s).
  • Complete and track weekly, monthly and annual inspections of equipment to ensure continued compliance.
  • Partner with site leadership in the investigation and documentation of all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities.
  • Lead and assist project teams in gathering photos and taking notes during OSHA or MSHA inspections and submit all relevant documentation to senior safety leadership.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources in managing workers' compensation cases.
  • Employ strategies to avoid loss-time accidents and utilization of the benefits.
  • Ensure the work of the safety team is being completed in accordance with expectations and internal standards.
  • Lead and participate in Project Lifecycle Safety Planning.
  • Assist senior safety leadership in completing employee resource planning for projects to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Review and communicate safety metrics, trends and plans to address safety trends and issues at the project level.
  • Manage safety plans and goals to ensure project objectives are being met. Develop plans to assist team(s) in meeting project goals.
  • Engage in networking and community outreach with different construction groups/affiliations.
  • Act as a safety resource and mentor for project staff.
  • Lead and develop a team of individuals. Lead by example.
  • Support employee development through mentoring, training and performance management.
  • Oversee and assist in planning for high-risk activities
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction management or other related field required. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least five years' experience in construction and/or industrial safety required.
  • A valid driver's license may be required. Individuals in this role may be subject to an annual Motor Vehicle Records check. The outcome of any MVR checks conducted may negatively impact the persons' ability to participate in any vehicle program provided by the company, including but not limited to the ability to drive a personal vehicle on behalf of The Boldt Company or rent a vehicle through for business travel purposes.
  • First aid and/or CPR certification preferred.
  • Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred.
