About The Position

The safety lane inspector is responsible for performing inspections of company tractors, trailers, and related equipment to ensure safety and compliance with DOT standards. This role supports a safe and efficient fleet by identifying risks, performing basic maintenance, and partnering with drivers and maintenance staff to maintain operational readiness. Successful candidates are detail‑oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast‑moving environment that requires strong communication and sound decision‑making.

Requirements

  • Maintenance Software // Maintain accurate and compliant digital records of inspections and completed work.
  • Communication // Communicate effectively with drivers, operations staff, and maintenance personnel.
  • Problem Solving // Use proper procedures to troubleshoot maintenance issues.
  • Decision-Making // Determine which repairs can be completed in the safety lane and which must be escalated to the shop.
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent, and at least one (1) year of experience in a shop environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Interpersonal Skills // Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and provide coaching to a diverse workforce.

Nice To Haves

  • Safety Inspection // Two (2) years of experience inspecting equipment and freight.
  • Technician Experience // At least one (1) year of experience as an automotive or diesel technician.
  • Load Securement // Experience with load securement in a safety or driving role.
  • Class A CDL // Active Class A CDL license.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Inspection // Inspect tractors and trailers for fluid levels, services due, and potential maintenance issues.
  • Maintenance // Perform basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs or addressing simple equipment issues.
  • Equipment Inventory // Verify driver inventory, provide missing items, and return excess materials to inventory control.
  • Driver Assistance // Respond to driver questions and direct them to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Freight Inspection // Inspect load securement to identify and report any hazards or risks.
  • Maintenance Software // Update maintenance software with inspection results, work orders, and completed tasks.
