Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) with a minimum of 10 years’ hands-on experience in a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) product safety testing environment, or master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, we will consider a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 15+ years of equivalent directly related experience in product safety testing and certification (two years of directly related industry experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in a related major).
  • Extensive leadership experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry, with proven management of product safety testing teams.
  • In-depth experience performing product safety testing and certification in accordance with key standards, including but not limited to UL, CSA, IEC (e.g., 60601-1 for medical devices, 62368-1, 61010-1 for measurement/control/lab equipment, 60335 series for household appliances, and other relevant NRTL/CB Scheme standards).
  • Strong knowledge of NRTL requirements (OSHA-accredited), CB Scheme processes, factory inspections/audits, scope expansions, and global market access for electrical/electronic products.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in hazard analysis, risk assessment, construction review, and certification processes for a wide range of electrical and electronic products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer relations and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage a business at a profit/loss responsibility level and control operating budgets.
  • Ability to develop and enforce policies and operating practices.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate responsibilities, and handle contract negotiations.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Complete the Eurofins Annual ITAR awareness Training and remain in good standing (if applicable to scope).
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • This is a high-profile position that requires corporate and site level interactions. This position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be able to work well and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff as a team member and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience supporting business growth, including team management, staff training/development, sales/technical support to clients, accreditation maintenance/expansion, and profitability management in a product safety lab.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations, accreditation bodies (e.g., OSHA NRTL, SCC, ANAB/ILAC), and relevant regulations (e.g., EPA, DOT, OSHA, DOL).

Responsibilities

  • Manages laboratory operations to provide positive operating margin and meet annual budgetary goals.
  • Responsible for the culture of the lab and employee engagement under their hierarchy, act confidentially in employee matters, and partner with Human Resources to ensure that all policies and programs are applied consistently throughout the laboratory.
  • Builds and maintains positive customer relationships and sales growth through direct interaction with customers and Eurofins sales personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains an active and positive safety culture and collaborates with Employee Health and Safety reps to ensure that procedures are implemented and followed to comply with appropriate policies and regulations.
  • Prioritizes the activities of the operations groups to ensure key goals are achieved and customer service needs are addressed.
  • Provides periodic reports to GM to ensure that goals and objectives are being achieved and to recognize opportunities for development.
  • Works with GM to ensure accurate forecast of receipts, provide quality analytical data to clients, and meet on-time delivery dates.
  • Supports BU Team activities to develop and implement sales strategies to ensure budgetary goals are achieved. Maintain and support accreditation/certifications (including NRTL status, ISO/IEC 17025, and relevant CB Scheme accreditations). Ability to travel for business purposes is required.
  • Communicates Lab-specific goals and objectives to employees. Communicates and implements lab initiatives designed to foster teamwork and communication.
  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities with direct reports to achieve strong staff performance. Mentors key employees.
  • Evaluates and maintains appropriate staffing levels to support operational needs and budgetary requirements. Collaborates with the GM/BUM to discuss and review manpower regularly.
  • Actively participates in the process of sharing and adopting best practices within Eurofins. Provides technical assistance to other Eurofins laboratories as needed to improve productivity and customer service.
  • Recommends and/or approve all laboratory purchases including capital spending to support the business plan and maintain profitability.
  • Responsible for upholding and enforcing Company policies, including but not limited to, Quality, Safety, Standard Operating Procedures, Ethics, and Harassment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
