About The Position

The Safety Investigator position within the Transportation Department focuses on conducting safety compliance audits and inspections for non-hazardous material commercial motor carrier operations. The role involves traveling within a designated area to perform safety audits, compliance reviews, and inspections to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations. The investigator will also provide education to carriers about compliance and prepare detailed reports based on their findings.

Requirements

• 30 months of training or 30 months of investigative experience with relevant experience corresponding to the type of complaints and alleged violations.
• Valid driver's license.
• Completion of an associate core program in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field with 12 months of experience conducting investigations or inspections.
• 30 months of training or 30 months of experience as an Investigator Assistant with relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Independently conduct safety compliance audits and inspections on non-hazardous material commercial motor carrier operations, records, and equipment.
• Travel in a state vehicle within a designated area to perform Safety Audits (SAs), Compliance Reviews (CRs), and driver/vehicle inspections.
• Review driver duty status, bills-of-landing, driver qualification records, logbooks, equipment/maintenance records, and carrier equipment inspections.
• Provide education to carriers regarding compliance with safety regulations.
• Formulate conclusions and prepare detailed reports of compliance and safety audits and inspections.
• Respond to complaints from the public and regulated industry regarding violations of laws governing commercial motor vehicle transportation within the State of Ohio.
