About The Position

The Safety Intern for Layton Construction assists the Safety Manager, Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents in supporting jobsite safety initiatives on active construction projects. This role provides hands-on exposure to construction safety practices, OSHA compliance, and field operations while reinforcing Layton's commitment to safety, integrity, and quality.

Requirements

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior currently enrolled in a university program.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with field personnel.
  • Ability to work in an active construction environment and comply with all safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred majors include: - Safety Management - Occupational Safety & Health - Construction Management - Environmental Health & Safety or related field
  • Prior internship preferred but not required.
  • Construction industry or field experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of OSHA regulations preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Champions “The Layton Way” by supporting predictable outcomes for internal teams, external partners, and customers through proactive safety practices.
  • Ensures “Constructing with Integrity” by promoting honesty, unity, safety, and quality across all jobsite activities.
  • Becomes familiar with assigned project safety plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists Safety Managers with daily jobsite safety walks and observations.
  • Helps identify, document, and report potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Supports enforcement of site-specific safety requirements and PPE compliance.
  • Assists with OSHA compliance, safety documentation, and recordkeeping.
  • Participates in incident investigations and assists with documentation and follow-up actions.
  • Supports safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training initiatives.
  • Maintains safety logs, inspection reports, and other required safety documentation.
  • Collaborates with project teams, superintendents, and subcontractors to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Assists in tracking safety equipment, signage, and materials needed for the project.
  • Completes follow-up for receipt, review, and distribution of safety-related information required for project execution.
