About The Position

The Safety Intern assists with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of programs, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency and severity of accidental loss in the areas of worker’s compensation, general and auto liability, and property. The Safety Intern also assists in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulation, which is designed to protect the human, financial, and physical assets of the company while creating a company-wide safety culture through risk assessments and safety training programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Studying towards a degree in Safety.
  • Have or obtain OSHA 10 training within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Strong project management, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with G-Suite, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multi-task work in a strong-paced environment.
  • Able to work alone on a broad variety of projects.
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in course of work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to travel occasionally to field locations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular physical inspection of company grounds, buildings, equipment, and operations; identifies hazards and incidents of regulatory non-compliance, and recommends corrective measures.
  • Implements controls for identified hazards to maintain compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions.
  • Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information as well as assist in new employee safety orientation.
  • Assist in daily activities regarding injury management and workers compensation issues.
  • Maintains site required documentation related to safety issues such as accident reports, inspection reports, and training logs.
  • Conduct accident investigations and facilitate the return to work program.
  • Coordinates emergency response and first aid systems as needed.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
