About The Position

Occupational Safety positions are a mixture of engineering and regulatory compliance functions, with a heavy focus on problem solving and engagement across the organization. The Occupational Safety Intern will work alongside our Production Safety teams to support and direct safety initiatives at Plant 10. This position offers hands-on exposure in a dynamic fast paced manufacturing environment. Interns will gain experience using safety management systems to keep and sustain a safe work environment for all BMW Associates. Our department plays a vital role in daily production, future projects, and innovation topics. This role provides exposure to multiple areas of the automotive business including equipment design, controls, robots, programming, vehicle design, regulations, occupational health, workers comp, and a wide range of innovation topics (including 3D printing/additive manufacturing).

Requirements

  • Majoring in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or other engineering-based degrees.
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Problem Solving skills.
  • Ability to Train Others.
  • Project leadership skills.
  • Project management and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regarding technical automated equipment.
  • Ability to manage training in an eLearning environment (training tracking for large populations).
  • Ability to organize and write equipment specifications.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours/week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT.
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize existing safety management system to sustain a safe working environment for BMW Associates.
  • Assist with the sustainability of existing programs and making efficiencies and modifications to existing procedures.
  • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Maintenance to review submission to internal Change Management Process.
  • Assist in audits, ergonomic evaluations, inspections, and investigations.
  • Conduct research on potential vendors and innovative technology.
  • Develop communication plans and training programs for new programs.
  • Provide support for interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain project plan and task lists for various individual and team projects.
  • Create presentations and communication documents using Corporate Identity standards.
  • Collaborate with Planning Group to ensure safety and process optimization.
