About The Position

The Safety Intern position at Hensel Phelps is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health. The primary goal of this internship is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the construction process while supporting the Safety Manager and project team in ensuring a safe work environment. Interns will assist in planning, monitoring work activities, and addressing unsafe conditions, providing a valuable opportunity to evaluate a potential long-term career with the company after graduation.

Requirements

• Pursuing a 4-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health (preferred).
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.

Responsibilities

• Gain knowledge of the company Safety & Health Program.
• Learn applicable safety and health regulations and effective implementation methods.
• Become familiar with the construction process.
• Assist the Project Superintendent in project site-specific safety orientation and training.
• Conduct safety observations in the field.
• Assist in the development and review of Activity Hazard Analysis.
• Help conduct project safety audits.
• Support the project team with accident and near miss investigations.
• Attend awareness level safety courses and other construction-related training.
• Perform periodic inspections of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
