About The Position

The Safety & Health Coordinator is a site-based safety professional responsible for the day-to-day execution of safety and health programs within a paper and pulp manufacturing environment. This role provides a strong on-floor safety presence while partnering closely with the EHS Manager to ensure regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement across high-hazard operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Safety, EHS, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment; pulp and paper experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices
  • Strong field presence in high-hazard, heavy industrial environments
  • Ability to influence safe work practices without direct authority
  • Effective communicator across hourly and salaried teams
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and compliance-focused
  • Comfortable balanced tactical execution with strategic EHS support

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer mill safety and health programs in alignment with corporate safety standards
  • Support compliance with OSHA and applicable state and federal regulations specific to pulp and paper operations
  • Maintain required safety records, permits, and documentation (OSHA logs, training records, inspections)
  • Assist during regulatory inspections and internal/external audits
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits across pulp mill, paper machines, utilities, recovery boiler, and maintenance areas
  • Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and support lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and contractor safety programs
  • Identify high-risk activities and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained
  • Lead or support incident, near-miss, and first-aid investigations
  • Perform root cause analysis and track corrective and preventive actions
  • Analyze trends related to injuries, near misses, and process safety events and communicate findings to leadership
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training for hourly employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Support annual refresher training related to pulp and paper hazards (LOTO, confined space, mobile equipment, chemical safety)
  • Actively support safety committees, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Partner with the EHS Manager to implement site-wide safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects
  • Support mill leadership in driving safety performance and accountability
  • Escalate significant safety risks, compliance gaps, or trends appropriately
  • Assist with safety metrics, KPIs, and annual safety planning
