About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environment Specialist to support at its site in Phoenix, Arizona. In this role as the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Specialist, you will either be directly responsible for, or assist the SHE Manager with, the following: Implementing and maintaining programs for SHE protection within a manufacturing environment; Ensuring compliance to local, state, and federal regulations; Inspecting and oversight of best management practices; Participating in emergency planning activities; Training of employees and subcontractors; Developing and implementing programs to ensure that regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner and that SHE risks are effectively managed; Preparing environmental related reports, samples, and studies for submission to regulatory agencies as applicable to the Phoenix site; Engaging as needed with site functional groups outside of the SHE organization in order to address various cross-functional site-level initiatives such as hazardous material and waste management, air emissions reporting, stormwater management reporting, and environmental sustainability projects; Potentially supervising and overseeing or coordinating and leading specific SHE projects. Note about Hours: The site currently operates one shift. On rare occasion, may need to respond after hours for emergency situations that require SHE support, oversight, or direction.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety, or a related field, and two (2) years relevant work experience, or the overall equivalent experience
  • Previous experience with industrial hygiene
  • Broad knowledge of SHE regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA - CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, TSCA) and modern SHE management principles
  • An effective communicator, written and verbal, to relay complex information to employees and all levels of site management, including, as needed, external regulatory agencies
  • Ability to coach and consult with line management, at all levels relative to building a culture and processes that lead to excellent SHE performance
  • Skills to interpret and analyze technical data and/or reports
  • Able to take independent initiative, while also being able to work collaboratively and effectively in a team
  • Ability to evaluate industrial processes and develop solutions
  • Project Management skills
  • Familiarity with SHE audit practices and processes
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
  • Possess basic knowledge of Safety/Health & Environmental Management Systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001 requirements)
  • Able to work proficiently with Microsoft Office and industry related software applications

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of Safety/Health and/or Environmental Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory or consulting company with increasing responsibilities
  • Knowledgeable in engineering, chemical, physical and biological sciences
  • ISO 14001 Management Representative experience preferred
  • Experience with emergency response systems and training (e.g., HAZWOPER 40, Hazardous Materials Technician, etc.)
  • Experience with Arizona safety and environmental regulations
  • CHMM, CSP, CIH certification preferred
