Safety Field Technician III

GeoStabilization International
3d$89,400 - $110,000

About The Position

At GeoStabilization International (GSI), safety is not a checklist—it is a leadership behavior and a strategic differentiator. As a Safety Technician, you will play a mission-critical role in embedding a culture of operational discipline, ownership, and high-performance execution. This role is not just about compliance; it is about enabling our crews to deliver elite results in high-risk, high-complexity environments—safely, repeatedly, and at scale. We are looking for a safety partner who brings more than technical knowledge; we need a relationship-builder who can adapt standards to the unique demands of geohazard mitigation and foster a deep-rooted safety culture across the Western US. This role will be based out of San Louis Obisbo, California and will require travel 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of dedicated safety experience, specifically within construction or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Standards Knowledge: Working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, or relevant industrial safety and operational standards.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, SmartSheet, and Box; comfortable navigating digital reporting tools.
  • Licensing: Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Physicality: Capable of lifting 60 lbs and traversing active, rugged job sites in all weather conditions.
  • Field-First Mindset: This is a field-based role; you will spend significantly more time with crews than behind a desk.
  • Travel: Ability to travel 50% or more, including occasional short-notice deployments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications: CHST, ASP, or CSP preferred (or a clear path/commitment to obtain these within 12 months).
  • You have built or rebuilt safety programs that resulted in measurable incident reduction.
  • You have thrived in military, industrial, or remote construction settings with a zero-margin-for-error environment.
  • You are a CPR/First Aid instructor or a seasoned safety trainer with a track record of influencing behavior.
  • You have a history of turning low-performing sites into high-compliance, elite environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Partnership: Collaborate with field operations to proactively identify and mitigate risks on complex, high-exposure job sites.
  • Culture & Coaching: Lead field-level training and "in-the-trenches" coaching tailored to specific terrain, project exposure, and team maturity.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct rigorous root-cause analyses of safety incidents; drive organizational learning and policy adjustments based on real-world field input.
  • Strategic Interface: Serve as the bridge between field crews, safety leadership, and clients to ensure standards are upheld and safety solutions are adopted.
  • Training & Mentorship: Facilitate formal crew-level training, work toward becoming a certified OSHA Trainer, and present at internal company-wide meetings.
  • Project Oversight: Own regional project scheduling and contribute to the development of Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and project startup protocols.
  • Compliance Expertise: Build subject matter expertise in Worker’s Compensation, Owner-specific compliance, and CPR/First Aid (Instructor-level).
