Peraton is seeking a Safety Engineer to provide enterprise-level safety leadership supporting telecommunications and infrastructure operations that power the National Airspace System. This role is designed for a seasoned safety professional ready to influence high-visibility programs across multiple operational sites. You will lead system safety initiatives, conduct rigorous hazard analyses, and guide leadership on risk mitigation strategies that directly support aviation reliability and public trust. Your expertise will strengthen compliance, reduce operational risk, and ensure safety remains embedded in every phase of modernization and operational execution. Work Location: This position will work on site in the DC Metro area. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 7 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 9 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety engineering within telecommunications, infrastructure, or safety-critical environments.
  • Proven ability to conduct hazard analyses, safety audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Experience developing and managing multi-site safety programs.
  • Strong understanding of safety engineering principles and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with risk management methodologies and structured hazard analysis techniques.
  • Experience interpreting operational data and producing safety performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional safety initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: CHST or CSP preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements safety engineering processes for telecom systems and facilities.
  • Conducts system safety assessments, and compliance evaluations.
  • Supports incident investigations and corrective action planning.
  • Conduct hazard analyses, ensure compliance, support incident investigations.
  • Develop and maintain System Safety Plans (SSPs) and safety documentation aligned with federal standards.
  • Conduct and oversee safety compliance audits and readiness reviews.
  • Advise program leadership on safety risks, mitigation strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, systemic risks, and opportunities for risk reduction.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective action planning, and risk closure verification.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and compliance teams to embed safety into modernization initiatives.
