About The Position

The Safety Engineer/Specialist will support the space program located in Mountain View, CA. This position will support numerous Occupational Safety programs at an aerospace and research facility. Support, develop, implement, consult, audit, report and train on a variety of safety programs. Programs may include: mishap investigation, confined space, lifting devices, electrical safety, lock-out/tag-out, heavy equipment safety, fall protection, facility safety, ergonomics, machine guarding, office safety, and explosive safety.

Requirements

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field.
  • Requires 3+ years of recent and related work experience managing or implementing safety programs.
  • In lieu of degree: Candidates with 7+ years of recent and related experience will be considered.
  • Must have experience writing and reviewing technical reports that follow standard scientific methodology.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.

  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
  • All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.
  • All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of additional Microsoft data analytic tools (Power BI, VBA, etc.)
  • Experience working as a government contractor or on government contracts.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Indoor air quality experience.
  • Asbestos, lead and mold experience.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the Occupational Safety task orders following the requirements, deliverables, and deadlines provided by the customer.
  • Provide monthly metrics of deliverables to the customer as required.
  • Deliver various safety related training courses to classes of 3-30 participants.
  • Interact with NASA personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of regulatory and procedure requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to NASA's established safety standard by providing direction and integrating NASA's safety program into workplace practices.
  • Identify and address safety-related issues/hazards in lab, shop, and office spaces by applying problem-solving skills and adapting to the situation at hand.
  • Present audit results/recommendations to supervisors and senior management.
  • Proactively plan and implement measures to mitigate risk and foster further development of the safety culture.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities to guarantee requirements are achieved and objectives are met.
  • Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements among the organization; develop solutions and provide clarification where rule ambiguity exists.
  • Provide customer service to a variety of organizations with diverse work and backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.
