The role of Safety Engineer/Technician is to actively promote an injury-free culture and work with all levels to continuously improve the safety performance of the division. This is a professional position with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring compliance with OSHA and WISHA/DOSH regulations, assisting departments in safety initiatives, leading or assisting with internal process audits, developing/improving training materials, leading training sessions, assisting in safety teams, auditing contractors, and assisting with outside audits. Successful candidates in this role will demonstrate strong Microsoft Skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Etc). and a proven ability to organize, prioritize, and execute tasks with high first pass quality and attention to detail. This position does require moderate physical activity, such as walking around all areas of a large industrial facility, climbing industrial stairs & fixed ladders, working on elevated surfaces, and performing in highly stressful situations. All members of the safety department will be expected to be members of Nucor Rescue Team. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
