About The Position

Mortenson is currently seeking a Safety Engineer I or II who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Safety Engineer will work to implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

1. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at
this time.
2. Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.
3. Travel is 100% anywhere in the U.S. with regular rotations home every 3
weeks for 4 days until project is completed or assigned to another project.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or associate degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred
• OR High school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training, and minimum five years of construction experience
• Current driver’s license
• Detail-oriented, able to organize and manage multiple project tasks
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety-related software programs
• Positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills
• Ability to interpret and communicate company policies
• Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
• Effective public speaking and presentation skills
• Effective communication and active listening skills, openness to diverse input and feedback, ability to travel up to 100%
• One year of related experience
• High school diploma, STS/CHST Certification, OSHA 30 Hour Training, and a minimum of seven years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work, including at least five years with responsibility for managing safety programs at the crew or project level, conducting and reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls, planning work activities

• Previous related internship experience a plus
• Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site-specific safety activities, conduct safety orientation/training
• Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, manage OSHA reporting
• Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, participate in project planning/hazard analysis
• Provide safety-related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards/regulations, serve as safety resource, attend/chair safety meetings
• Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours, ensure maintenance of safety equipment, manage PPE and safety budget
• Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
