Position Purpose: The Corporate Safety Director: Manufacturing is responsible for the execution and implementation of Safety programs across ACI’s Manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring execution and implementation of safety programs, regulatory compliance, providing regulatory and technical support, training assistance at all levels within the business, leading direct and indirect reports to mitigate risk, and develop sustainable solutions into a cohesive and purpose-directed occupational safety program, aligned with our values of putting people first.

Requirements

  • Experience in Behavior Based Safety Observations and implementation of BBS using Human and Organizational Influence principles and philosophies.
  • Must be comfortable in presenting technical and non-technical information in brief format to executive level management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Safety, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors Engineering or related field preferred
  • Minimum 10 plus years’ experience managing safety for multiple operations and locations across multiple geographies
  • Experience interfacing with government regulatory agencies
  • Minimum 7 years of people leadership experience, direct and indirect
  • Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and related compliance regulations and safety requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of all applicable statutes and regulations including OSHA, EPA, DOT, PSM/RMP.
  • Well-organized, detail oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced technical writing skills to participate in the creation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and documents.
  • Must be able to convert regulatory text into succinct procedures.
  • Possess knowledge of content management systems and technical writing best practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with claim financials and cost development required.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Regular, multi-state travel. Travel may include transport by airplane, rail and or personal motor vehicle.
  • Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment but occasionally outdoors, in refrigerated areas or freezing conditions.
  • Must sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Required use of calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties with occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

  • Advanced degree and/or professional certification (CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) preferred.
  • Understanding of instructional design and content development preferred.

Responsibilities

  • ENSURING PROGRAM AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE WHILE DRIVING A CULTURE OF SAFETY EXCELLENCE AND PUTTING OUR PEOPLE FIRST: Proactively participates in the design, development, review and implementation of policies, programs, processes, systems and governance that ensure safety compliance, continuous improvement, and performance.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams in the development of safety programs and “toolboxes.”
  • Reviews the implementation of technical programs for effectiveness with the ability to monitor understanding and implementation of programs.
  • Interpret federal and state OSHA regulations, National Consensus Standards and apply them appropriately.
  • Demonstrates depth and breadth of knowledge in hazard recognition, evaluation and control.
  • Initiates and drives the development and execution of tactical and strategic initiatives to eliminate hazards and reduce or eliminate associated risks.
  • Represents the company by interfacing with government regulatory agencies and works to resolve regulatory issues and risk mitigation of future issues.
  • Must have previous experience with negotiating and/or proposing OSHA citation severity reduction.
  • Monitor compliance to company safety policies and/or programs to reduce claim exposure and regulatory enforcement.
  • Partner with legal and cross-functional departments on regulatory matters.
  • Communicate regulatory updates to all stakeholders.
  • Proactively work with DC Manufacturing leadership in the audit, identification, and action planning for identified opportunities.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and provides regulatory assistance, technical support and training to all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge, understanding, application, and implementation of safety programs, policies and workers’ compensation laws, risk management, and regulations and has ability to translate them into proactive, actionable processes, programs and practices which are clearly understood at all levels.
  • Assist business leaders in their preparation of safety and health initiatives, budgets and prioritization.
  • Work with other senior safety team members to provide overall success of reducing accidents and incidents.
  • Train and mentor peers and leadership to enhance overall team productivity.
  • Trains and conducts facility risk assessments and when needed, task-based hazard assessments.
  • Conduct problem solving analysis on business requirements, attain stakeholder support, and track progress to action plans.
  • Review data integrity and identify, communicate, and participate in the development of solutions for gaps within the enterprise safety reporting database.
  • Ability to interpret safety metrics and data to executive leadership in a clear and concise manner.
  • Review and facilitate reporting related to workers’ compensation claims and coordinate OSHA reporting responsibilities with third party administrator.
