About The Position

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety of all employees and visitors by implementing injury and loss prevention strategies. This role involves conducting training, facility inspections, and evaluations to minimize risks and enhance safety protocols across the organization.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or two (2) year technical certificate.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience.
  • A valid driver's license is required; out-of-state candidates must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.
  • Proof of liability auto insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct, or coordinate loss prevention training and presentations on various safety topics.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct notifications and follow-ups for safety workshops and training programs.
  • Maintain Defensive Driving Certification and provide documentation to City drivers.
  • Review, revise, and develop standard operating procedures and City-wide Risk Management policies.
  • Submit procedures to the Risk Manager and City Safety Advisory Board for approval annually.
  • Incorporate changes in laws and ordinances as needed.
  • Serve as a member or Chairperson on the City's Safety Advisory Board.
  • Perform annual risk assessments for all City-owned properties and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Complete facility inspection reports and provide corrective action recommendations to the Department Director.
  • Conduct work site safety inspections to assess risks and identify corrective actions.
  • Prepare summaries of work site safety assessments and submit them to the Department Director and Risk Manager.
  • Investigate and document employee injuries, providing reports to department directors and assisting with Incident Report forms.
  • Respond to motor vehicle accidents during business hours, documenting the scene and assisting departments as needed.
  • Meet with employees with multiple safety incidents to review workers' compensation data and gather input on injury prevention ideas.
  • Schedule and create monthly agendas for the VARB meeting and document decisions in the INFOR system.
  • Perform monthly driver record checks and notify departments of any driving privilege losses or DWI convictions.
