About The Position

Thornton Construction Company is looking for a qualified and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program for our company. This includes: Conduct workplace jobsite safety inspections and identify hazardous conditions Conducts safety stand down meetings because of a safety deficiency on site Developing and delivering safety training programs to our employees Investigating accidents and incidents and implementing corrective actions/ identifying root cause and contributing causes Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations of 1926 & 1910 Maintaining safety records Advising management on safety matters Safety orientation for new employees entering the jobsite Performs PPE inspections when applicable and maintain log with inspection dates Honors and protect confidential and proprietary documents and information The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of occupational safety and health principles and practices. Experience in developing and implementing safety programs is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or 5+ years of experience in the construction industry
  • 5+ years of construction experience in a safety related position
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and other applicable safety regulations
  • Excellent communication in English/Spanish and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Possess an OSHA 30 minimum preferably OSHA 510 & 500
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Successful Pre-Employment Drug Test
  • Successful Background Investigation
  • Capacity to be proactive and effectively communicate with and influence others
  • Possess strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Words, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Need to withstand demands of extreme weather conditions and high temperatures
  • Need to be physically fit and able to lift more than 50 lbs., frequently bending over when necessary
  • Must be able to climb ladders to access a roof (Extension, Fixed, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, State and Federal regulations
