About The Position

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the weekly, monthly, and annual inspections of all intermediate care facility (ICF) homes within Horizon. This individual will document deficiencies and identify and coordinate connections to ensure a safe environment for clients, staff, and visitors. This position will report to Horizon’s Health and Safety Officer to ensure compliance with safety regulations and Horizon’s health and safety policies and procedures for ICF housing. This position will communicate as needed with housing managers and staff to ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code and local fire codes, as well as CMS as it relates to disaster preparedness.

Requirements

  • Certificate or associate’s degree in occupational safety & health or in any other field that is relevant to safety management.
  • One (1) year of experience with occupational safety, administering or assisting with workplace safety programs or equivalent experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of safety and health standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Knowledge of NFPA Life Safety Code.
  • Knowledge of Virginia fire codes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Vizio.
  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans.
  • Ability to understand and successfully complete the following within the first six (6) months of employment: FEMA/EMI IS-100 Intro incident command FEMA/EMI IS-195 basic incident command FEMA/EMI IS-200 basic incident command FEMA/EMI IS 700 (NIMS) National Incident Command System
  • Safety, health, and accident prevention methods, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to employee safety and occupational health.
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate complex safety problems and issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze data and complete comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to interpret safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to plan and present safety training programs.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and make timely and effective recommendations.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous and emergency situations and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to drive and must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive during inclement weather and after dark.
  • Required to travel to different Horizon work sites during the day based on operational needs or provide support at other locations.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required.
