About The Position

The Safety Companion is a vital member of the healthcare team at Miami Valley Hospital, working under the supervision of licensed nurses to provide essential support in patient care. This role involves performing basic nursing tasks, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a clean and organized environment for patients during night shifts.

Requirements

• High School completion / GED required.
• Current HealthCare Provider or Professional Rescuer BLS/Responder certification required within three months after hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist PCT and licensed nurse with care of the patient.
• Demonstrate knowledge of skin care including prevention, monitoring, and reporting.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the Epic computer system.
• Meet the safety needs of the patient and use equipment safely and properly.
• Follow all agency policies regarding infection control and employee safety.
• Recognize patient's needs and attend to their requests in a prompt and organized manner.
• Maintain a neat and orderly patient environment.
• Utilize appropriate communication skills with the patient, the patient's family, and all agency personnel.
• Serve patient's tray and assist with feeding if necessary, and report the amount eaten.
• Complete accurate records and carry out all assignments as requested.
• Maintain minimum weekend on-call, holiday, or other requirements established by the department.
• Demonstrate respect for patient property and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Observe basic elements of body functioning and report changes to the licensed nurse.
• Recognize emergencies and demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures.
