About The Position

The UMSL Police Department is seeking a Safety Communications Operator who will respond to incoming calls, manage incident-related data, and dispatch officers as necessary. The role requires understanding team dynamics and how tasks relate to other teams, organizing and completing assignments based on priorities, and maintaining logs and records. The operator will provide solutions to atypical problems, evaluate options, and communicate effectively with sensitivity and objectivity.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.

Responsibilities

• Responds to incoming calls to the Police Department, routing and logging calls as appropriate.
• Gathers and manages incident-related data, arranging for the dispatch of officers.
• Understands how tasks/activities relate to others on the team and integrates with other related teams.
• Organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities.
• Gathers and relays information according to standard processes and procedures.
• Maintains lists and logs, preparing records and reports as requested.
• Provides solutions to problems in atypical situations.
• Evaluates and selects solutions from established options/procedures.
• Impacts team through the quality of services or information provided.
• Utilizes working knowledge and learned skills to perform various activities.
• Possesses basic knowledge of specific processes and procedures needed to perform assignments.
• Communicates through the regular exchange of information, ensuring objectivity and sensitivity.
