About The Position

Batory Foods is seeking frontline team members at our Commerce, California facility to serve as Safety Captains. This role is designed for employees who demonstrate strong safety leadership, accountability, and a commitment to supporting their peers on the production floor and in the warehouse. Safety Captains are peer leaders who reinforce daily safety expectations, support new hire onboarding, and strengthen communication between Operations and EHS. This is not a supervisory role. It is an operational leadership opportunity focused on driving safety engagement and continuous improvement at the Commerce site. This role supports Batory’s commitment to Never Compromise on Safety and helps build a pipeline of future operational leaders within the facility.

Requirements

  • Consistent safety record and strong adherence to PPE and standard operating procedures.
  • Reliable attendance and demonstrated accountability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to positively influence peers.
  • Comfortable using digital systems such as Velocity EHS and Alchemy or willingness to learn.
  • Eligibility: This role is intended for frontline hourly Operations employees at the Commerce facility.
  • Supervisors, Managers, and members of the EHS team are not eligible for the Safety Captain assignment.
  • Candidates must be in good standing with no active disciplinary action at the time of selection.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience mentoring peers or leading small groups.
  • Operational experience with forklifts, Lockout Tagout, or other high-risk tasks relevant to the Commerce facility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the safety portion of daily shift huddles using EHS provided Safety Moment materials.
  • Support high quality incident, near miss, hazard, and observation reporting within Velocity EHS.
  • Encourage and assist with on time completion of required safety training in Alchemy.
  • Complete structured monthly safety inspections and track corrective action follow through at the Commerce facility.
  • Provide peer mentoring and weekly check-ins for new hires during their first 30 to 60 days.
  • Reinforce safe practices during high-risk tasks such as forklift operation, Lockout Tagout, and PPE use.
  • Participate in monthly Safety Captain Committee meetings for alignment and continued development.
  • Model consistent compliance with PPE, SOPs, and company safety expectations at all times.

Benefits

  • Eligible for quarterly performance-based bonus up to 5 percent of base salary, capped at $5,000.00 annually.
