As the Safety and Security Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day safety functions that keep the park running smoothly. Job Summary: The Assistant Security Manager supports the Area Safety and Security Manager, providing direction to the security team in the manager's absence. Key responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with policies, conducting training, maintaining communication with various internal and external departments, and continuously improving security measures to maximize customer service and safety. Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Previous experience in a management position preferably in the Security, Loss Prevention, Fire or EMS fields.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate maturity, professional demeanor, good judgment, diplomacy, objectivity, and sound conflict/crisis intervention and problem-solving skills for managing employee and guest complaints.
  • Maintain positive employee relations and morale by practicing sound leadership and human relations principles, setting a good example in attitude and personal actions to always promote teamwork.
  • Possess advanced computer skills to include familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to learn company computer programs used for such tasks as incident reports and daily logs, payroll and ordering supplies.
  • Be a proficient typist, averaging a minimum of 30 words per minute.
  • Have or be able to obtain CPR, first aid, and AED certification through the American Heart Association. (Training available through Xanterra Parks & Resorts)
  • Be able to obtain BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification and be trained in oral drug and alcohol testing procedures. (Training available through Xanterra Parks & Resorts)
  • Delegate daily tasks and shift-work for regular completion.
  • Always maintain and project a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Coach and mentor staff on a regular basis throughout the season and provide training opportunities and feedback. Plan and participate in one-on-one training for the staff members.
  • Have strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with keen attention to detail, including the ability to write clear, concise, and detailed reports.
  • Requires the ability to communicate professionally and effectively via two-way radio, cell-phone and any other means with a diverse population of employees and guests.
  • Be able to quickly learn the layout of the assigned location, established policies and procedures, and location specific duties.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift (day, swings, and overnight). The actual shift hours will depend upon staffing level and the needs of the security department and business operation.
  • Must be able to work continuously up to twelve hours.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling, working a variety of shifts in a single week based on the needs of the location being overseen.
  • Requires frequent standing and walking for up to twelve hours.
  • Requires occasional climbing, sitting, stooping, bending, and/or kneeling. Could total up to two hours per shift.
  • Must be able to respond in a safe and prompt manner to emergent situations.
  • Must be able to shovel snow/gravel during times of inclement weather.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds infrequently (e.g. assist emergency medical personnel with loading/unloading patients into and out of ambulances).

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is to support and assist the Area Safety and Security Manager and in the absence of the manager provides direction and support to the location security team.
  • Perform all duties toward the goal of maximizing customer service and safety.
  • Review daily, the security logs and incident reports for content, clarity and completeness, including grammar. Provide follow-up on any issues that remain unresolved or require additional investigation.
  • Assist with on-going communication with Security Staff, Location Management, HR, and other location department managers regarding the security function.
  • Assist with the continuous review of the location security operation for needs and proactive measures.
  • Project a positive, customer service-oriented demeanor when interacting with employees/visitors.
  • Assist with and participate and present at the location Community Matters meetings, Employee Orientation(s) held throughout the season regarding the security function.
  • Establish and maintain the overall tone of the operation by communicating specific expectations to the Security Supervisors and Officers.
  • In absence of the manager, act as an ERG (Emergency Response Guidelines) leader.
  • Assist with the coordination to complete random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy and all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Plan with the Security Manager and Supervisors to ensure that all pre-opening and monthly safety inspections are completed in a timely manner.
  • Review payroll daily.
  • Audit performance of the Security Staff.
  • Ability to present training topics to Security Staff and other departments or employees.
  • Assist with or conduct weekly meetings with Security Supervisors and regular meetings with all security staff.
  • Maintain liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement/fire agencies regarding security or fire/safety issues.
  • Delegate daily tasks and shift-work for regular completion.
