About The Position

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and support for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. Requirements

  • Must maintain a NFPA 72 certification.
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • If hired with an out-of-state license a valid Florida State driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days.
  • Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs with or without accommodations.
  • Must have three (3) years of carpentry and/or paint experience.
  • Must be able to work in tight spaces and/or on the rooftop.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, climb, for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Knowledge of: the principles and techniques of skilled building trades or mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of: safety procedures that are required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of: And ability to understand life safety guidelines and other local safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of: determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to: read blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to: Read and understand purchase orders
  • Ability to: communicate effectively.
  • Ability to: establish & maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to: utilize problem solving techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all life safety reports (Fire Drills, NFPA 110, NFPA 25, NFPA 72) are up to date and on file in the life safety to ensure compliance with applicable safety codes and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Inspect buildings, facilities, and work operations for proper safety measures and ensure compliance with applicable safety codes monthly.
  • Coordinates Life Safety group activities such as fire alarm system replacements, and sprinkler systems corrections and repairs. Works with the team to facilitate beds for quarterly, semi-annual, yearly, and multi-year inspections with outside vendors for all phases of life safety.
  • Work with our Worker’s Compensation coordinator to access accident data to resolve or remove any physical plant issues regarding employee/resident safety and coordinates correction.
  • Serve on the Safety Committee and report findings of building inspections.
  • Facilitates communication to the Life Safety Supervisor for FCO needs regarding life safety, and safety factors in general for Tacachale.
  • Escort vendors to the jobsite, explain in detail the services needed, provide guidance on unforeseen issues during the project and, perform a final inspection to ensure all services were performed per the purchase order.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
