As a safety and health inspector trainee, the incumbent will receive on-the-job training while performing duties similar to those described for the safety and health inspector. Upon satisfactory completion of a one-year traineeship, the incumbent will advance to the position of a safety and health inspector without further examination. As a safety and health inspector, the incumbent will plan, schedule, and conduct safety and health inspections of selected work sites such as state, county, city, and town offices. Inspections may also be conducted at places of public assembly, ski areas, carnivals, fairs and amusement parks, explosives magazines, power scaffolds, and other window-washing operations. Such work sites may include asbestos abatement projects. The inspections are made in order to assure conformance with established standards, identifying unsafe conditions and work practices, and to protect workers and the public.
