This position is considered a field position and will not be required to report into a physical office on daily basis but based on operational need. What You'll Be Doing: Conduct on-site safety inspections of public employer workplaces across Ohio to identify hazardous conditions and ensure compliance with Ohio Revised Code and Administrative Code Chapter 4167. Investigate serious workplace incidents, including fatalities, hospitalizations, and imminent danger situations, and prepare detailed reports with citations and abatement recommendations. Use industrial hygiene instruments (e.g., noise dosimeters, gas monitors, IAQ monitors) to assess environmental exposures and refer complex cases for further evaluation. Provide technical guidance and compliance assistance to public employers, employees, and stakeholders on occupational safety standards, hazard abatement, and program development. Mentor new officers and review reports for accuracy and quality, while also supporting legal proceedings and promoting workplace safety through outreach and training initiatives.

  • 12 mos. exp. in advisory or consultative capacity in field of industrial or environmental health & safety program development & education AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations AND 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques AND valid driver's license, except in Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, must provide own transportation for travel & required automobile insurance coverage pursuant to Section 4509.51 of Revised Code as needed.
  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in natural sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology) AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in industrial or environmental health & safety principles, practices & regulations AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations AND 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in interviewing principles & techniques AND valid driver's license, except in Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, must provide own transportation for travel & required automobile insurance coverage pursuant to Section 4509.51 of Revised Code as needed.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Twelve (12) months experience citing, interpreting & applying Industrial Health & Safety Principles, practices & regulations.
  • Twelve (12) months experience citing, interpreting & applying the 1910, 1926 & 1928 OSHA Standards.
  • Twelve (12) months experience citing, interpreting & applying OSHA & State safety & health regulations.
