The Bureau of Survey and Certification (BOSC ) is responsible for conducting survey inspections to ensure health care providers and clinical laboratories are compliant with state and federal requirements. BOSC is seeking a Safety and Health Consultant. This position provides advice and consultation on environmental health and safety, specifically federal Life Safety Code (LSC) rules and regulations. Additional duties include: Conduct LSC inspections of long-term care (LTC) and Acute & Continuing Care (ACC) facilities for Medicare and Medicaid certification. Investigate complaints alleging noncompliance with LSC standards in LTC and ACC facilities. Offer on-site assistance with LSC surveys in cases of fire or other disasters. Climb ladders and crawl through attic spaces as needed to conduct inspections. Utilize personal or laptop computer to compile, document, and record results of LSC inspections. Carry and operate personal or laptop computer, portable scanner, camera, and reference materials/forms (weighing up to 30 lbs.) to and from worksite. Evaluate and provide recommendations for LSC waiver requests under Title 18/19 submitted by providers. Conduct the review and approval process of requests for temporary construction waivers. Review all survey documentation for completeness and accuracy before processing and data entry. Provide technical expertise to BOSC staff on LSC policy. Develop and implement LSC educational training programs for BOSC and health care providers/suppliers. Act as a preceptor for newer Safety & Health Consultants and assist in initial training as assigned. Evaluate program consistency and effectiveness. Provide technical input to BOSC administrators in the development and expansion of LSC regulations for current or new provider/supplier types. Prepare written reports, records, and correspondence, including reports of survey findings and investigations. Coordinate with state and local agencies regarding LSC regulations. Represent Ohio Department of Health at various federal and state conferences and meetings. Serve as the BOSC liaison with the Ohio Department of Commerce on matters related to fire protection standards enforced by the State Fire Marshal and building standards enforced by the Division of Industrial Compliance. This is a field position that requires frequent travel. The primary worksite (headquarter county) is flexible and will be based on location of the final candidate. This position will work Monday - Thursday 10 hours each day. During training the candidate will work Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm . This is an hourly position , with a pay range of 33 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule.
