About The Position

The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the management and operation of the company's vehicle fleet. This role involves planning, coordinating, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of all vehicles complying with relevant laws, regulations, and internal safety standards. The manager works closely with dispatch, drivers, maintenance teams, and management to reduce accidents, enhance safety protocols, and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of safety experience in transportation or logistics
  • Experience managing safety for a fleet of 60+ vehicles size 16ft-26ft, as well as tractor-trailers
  • Extensive Knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT guidelines and safety certifications
  • PC literate, analytical, proficient in Microsoft Office Software
  • Must be able maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy are a must
  • Knowledge of machinery, vehicles, and other equipment

  • Knowledge working with Samsara is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all fleet vehicles comply with local, state, and federal transportation laws, including safety, emissions, and licensing requirements.
  • Keep updated on relevant laws and regulations such as DOT, OSHA, and environmental standards and ensure compliance across the fleet.
  • Monitor driver hours of service (HOS) and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment for drivers and other employees.
  • Investigate onsite and offsite incidents, including vehicle accidents, and determine root causes
  • Prepare detailed inspection, audit, and incident reports with corrective actions
  • Support management in implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for claims and regulatory compliance
  • Observe, coach, and enforce proper use of PPE and safety equipment
  • Review policies, conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and ensure employee compliance
